I was mesmerized by the events and was guessing to the end what the secrets were. My best friend recommended this book to me. Amy is grief-stricken and after Aurelia's death is forced from the only home she knows.

The characters were one dimensional but the narrative was engaging. Another engaging, emotional story from this author who is fast becoming one of my favourites with her quality of writing and storylines!

I really liked the character of Henry and how much he and Amy got along. A sweeping historical tale of love and friendship, I loved the relationship between Aurelia and Amy, even though it felt a little one-sided in places (and reasons for that became clear eventually!). I really enjoyed spending time with Amy Snow and learning about her life with Aurelia. I loved how Aurelia helped Amy become her own woman through the treasure hunt. I still think the book is worth five stars. One mystery was easy to figure out eventually; the other one involving Amy's history not so much, and was a little unsatisfactory. I also felt that the Victorian setting could have been exploited more.
